Fashion and Coronavirus

Today I will not tell the story of a brand, but I will write about a serious  problem that put in great difficulty one of the first voices of Italian economy: the world fashion and the people who work in fashion; this problem is Coronavirus.

For some months we are speaking about the Coronavirus and now everyone knows: what are the symptoms, where it comes and that it has done many problems in economic environment; but what are the Coronavirus on effect on the fashion?

In China the first Coronavirus’s effects is that Gucci,Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Ralph Lauren, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Calvin Klein, GCDS and Tommy Hilfiger have closed their flagship stores this have caused a plunged economic of the 34%.

Last week there was fashion week, that is the week where the stylists show their collections to journalists and to buyers, but beginning of Milan fashion week’s FW2020 missed the 80% of Asian buyers, that are the biggest buyers, because they are stopped from Coronavirus. This have caused a plunged economic of the 1,8% respect the last year, for a decline on 162 million of euro in Italy in a few week, but the problem it for big company and little company that works with the fashion so, this create economic crisis in the little company and artisans because the big company asks less material to produce less dress.

From 22nd February they have found three cases of Coronavirus in Lombardy, the city councilmen of Milan in the evening of the 22nd February have done a conference about the Coronavirus, in 23th February they done the decree that, said: closure of the school for one week, interruption of all tours in museums and interruption of all public and private events; this have obligated all stylist to make its show without audience, for example Giorgio Armani, for health of the people, had done a live on the site Armani.com and also Laura Biagiotti had done a live on Laura Biagiotti.com.

To prevent other decline economic for fashion, Dolce & Gabbana and Bulgari have given many money for the scientific research against the Coronavirus and some day later the group LVMH have give 2.3 million dollars against the Coronavirus.

Five days ago a task force chinese composed of functionaries of Putian footwear association done a decree that said: the companies of nappies and the companies of sneakers it must work together to produce a health masks to grow the a number of masks; the chinese had chosen Putian Because this city is the capital for production of the sneakers and nappies; but why they had chosen this city to produce the health masks? Because the material of the health masks is very similar to the nappies and the sneakers have the lace to tie the mask.

In this days walking through the streets of Milan’s fashion district you can see the desert streets and empty shops, it seems to live in a unreal atmosphere. I hope the situation returns to normality in a few weeks and the next time to tell you a better story.
